|Greenleaf/Tyco/Falls Wood Products Dollhouses
I wish they would stop changing their name. No matter how many times they are sold, they will always be known as Greenleaf. Our most affordable brand of dollhouse kits are the houses made by the Greenleaf company. They are all die-cut 1/8" plywood houses with silk-screened windows. Everything in these kits is made from 1/8" thick wood. The windows and doors must be assembled prior to installing them on the house. Most come with shingles already in the kit and smooth exterior walls. Clapboard siding and/or stucco for the exterior is optional and usually not included with the kit. But this can vary from one kit to another so read each description to find out what each kit does or does not come with.
Small budget houses can have their bodies assembled in about an hour, while the largest ones could take you a couple of afternoons. Budget houses are intended to be projects, meaning that the fun is supposed to be in the building. And budget houses have lots of fun.
Kits range in price from around $40 for a 2 room house, to just over $50 for our most popular 4-room starter house (the Arthur) to just under $300 for a huge 10-room victorian mansion. Room additions are not available for these houses and while Mott’s can assemble this brand of houses in the store we generally charge 5 times our normal rate. All of these houses are featured in our ON-LINE CATALOG.
Corona Concepts Houses
This company produces about 10 different models of Budget doll house kits. All made with the 1/8" die-cut plywood. Like the Greenleaf they are not referred to as Budget houses simply because they are very low priced for their size and architecture, but also because of the types of materials and they way they must be assembled. Though they are complete kits, usually with everything needed to complete the house as shown in their pictures including siding and shingles, they are more complicated to put together than better quality kits. They range in price from under $40 to just over $100. All of these houses are featured in our ON-LINE CATALOG.
|Walmer Lilliput Dollhouses
Next in line up the evolutionary scale of dollhouses are the Walmer Lilliput line of dollhouses. This line now includes the Miss Muffet houses. They are all made from a combination of 1/4" and 3/8" plywood and MDF. Generally vertical pieces are made from 1/4" to reduce weight while horizontal floor pieces are made from the thicker 3/8" to prevent sagging. Ceilings are 8˝" high. The main windows are easy to assemble and are put together from 5 pieces (two side pieces or shutters, a top and bottom, and the pre-printed plexi-glass). The doors all work and are all pre-assembled and pre-hung. The small octagon windows are pre-assembled. Shingles are not included in these kits but a bag of shingles will only set you back about $15. Clapboard siding and/or stucco for the exterior is optional and not included with the kit.
As of January, 2000 the Lilliput kits will are available with pre-milled clapboard siding in a new MDF version of the kits. Kits range in price from around $50 for a 2 room house, to just over $100 for our most popular 4-room starter house (the Cherrydale) up to about $160 for a large Victorian with a tower and mansard roof.. They are usually either a 4 room house with an attic, or a six room house without an attic. Several come with porches and there are 3 add-on wings to choose from if you want to expand your Lilliput house. Wing additions run $40 to $47 dollars for a 2-story 2-room wing. There are 6 regular models and 3 front-opening models. Stairs and stair-rails come with each model as does interior window and door trim and room dividers, as well as all exterior eve and gingerbread trim. Where applicable, kits come with porch rails, spindles and posts. All of these houses are featured in our ON-LINE CATALOG.
Duracraft Country Dream Collection
Released in spring of 1998. There are 6 houses in this new line and are made from 3/8" MDF board throughout the entire house. Plus, they come with pre-milled clapboard siding. These two features save you time and money and make the assembly of the house much faster. The body of these houses can generally be assembled in 1-2 hours. Windows, doors and stairs still must be assembled from multiple parts as with the rest of the Duracraft line.
Note that most of the Country Dreams collection have opening windows, so they are a little more involved than those in the Lilliput kits. Some customers upgrade these houses by installing pre-made windows and doors from our online catalog.
They start at around $70 and go to over $200. These houses are featured in our ON-LINE CATALOG.
Real Good Toys Dollhouses

The New Concept Front-Opening houses are identical to the rear-open houses All New Concept Front-Opening house come with 3/8" plywood or MDF and have pre-milled siding. All cuts, including window and door cut-outs have all been made into the siding at the factory, you just have to glue it on. Wing additions are available but porches are limited because the front of the house must swing open. Front-opening houses are closed on all sides and have hinged fronts.
The Simplicity line of houses are very similar to the New Concept houses. They come with 3/8" cabinet grade plywood or MDF with pre-milled clapboard siding. Everything has been pre-cut to fit. The Batrie series houses come from a company purchased by Real Good Toys many years ago. These houses are now made with 3/8" plywood or MDF which is pre-milled with the clapboard siding. They are also available with a brick exterior. Kits come complete with shingles and trim. Stairs and rails are also included as are all porch accessories. Windows and doors must be assembled but can be replaced with nice pre-assembled windows and doors available in our catalog without having to change the pre-cut window and door openings in the walls of the houses. These houses also assemble very easily and the interior floor plans are somewhat variable. Note that their construction differs from other houses in that they are built in levels. Each level is sandwiched between single-piece floors. Because of the way the wall sections lock into corner brackets, we recommend painting of these pieces prior to assembly.
Prices range from $180 to $598 for the kits with pre-milled clapboard, or $254 to $818 for the bricked kits. Wing additions are also now available for $78 to $118 for a 2-story 2-room wing . All of these houses are featured in our ON-LINE CATALOG.

|What is MDF?
In 1995 the Real Good Toys company began producing doll houses using a new product called Medium Density Fiberboard, MDF. You have probably noticed that many of the Real Good Toys houses are now available in both regular plywood and also in MDF. MDF is a process where wood fibers are taken from younger, faster growing trees, turned into wood pulp, and mixed with hardening resins. MDF is showing up more and more in home improvement centers across the country largely due to environmental concerns as it helps to save our forests. The completed product is a compact, durable wood product that is just as durable as regular plywood. It also finishes beautifully with ordinary paint. The only draw-back is that it is more difficult to cut than plywood unless you have power tools. Unless you are planning major modifications to the structure of the house, then MDF is a great alternative. Also, please note that MDF is nothing like particle board or press-board. MDF is a high quality material. Many dollhouse manufacturers now use it.
The G.E.L. company is combines quality with price. Houses are all made from 3/8" plywood with 1/4" pieces for the roof but you can expect to see the manufacturer switch to MDF later in 2000. There are three basic house bodies, a Saltbox style model "D", a Farmhouse style model "A", and a Victorian style model "H". There are literally dozens of different possible combinations for each model. That is because the G.E.L. houses can be customized. There are a variety of porches, towers, dormers, and wing additions for each basic model. You pick the basic house that you like, then pick any porches, towers, dormers or wings that you want to add.
There are several basic models to choose from or you can mix-and-match a custom house. Prices vary from around $150 for a basic model to over $500 for a model with porches and extra wings. All G.E.L. houses have full 10" ceiling heights, pre-milled clapboard siding (the clapboard siding is manufactured right in to the exterior surfaces of all the outside walls, no gluing on siding). They all come with working pre-assembled windows and doors. All trims come with the houses but shingles are extra.
Porches range in price from $22 to $170. Wing additions are about $70 for a 2-story 2-room wing. Model "H" and "A" house kits also come with a VHS video cassette of instructions showing an actual model being assembled. All of these houses are featured in our ON-LINE CATALOG.

This company produces about 10 different models of Budget doll house kits. Like the Greenleaf they are not referred to as Budget houses simply because they are very low priced for their size and architecture, but also because of the types of materials and they way they must be assembled. Though they are complete kits, usually with everything needed to complete the house as shown in their pictures including siding and shingles, they are more complicated to put together than more expensive kits. Larger models include press-wood used in some parts of the house for walls and/or floors. Also, in some models, instead of solid wall pieces, you are given strips of wood that you must first glue together before you can tilt them up into place to assemble the frame of your house. And though several of the models come with working windows, they are NOT pre-assembled windows. You must put them together and each window and door can have as many as 10-15 individual parts. Smaller models are made from 1/8" die-cut mahogany plywood. They range in price from under $40 to just over $200. These houses are no longer available from the manufacturer.
Again, we can Assemble any of the houses we sell and we can also finish them inside and out if you wish. Please check our Assembly Rates page for pricing.
